By building in -pause- checks and looking in on the spreadsheet at each step, I've learned thatġ) Writing the subtest to Tab 1 is working fine.Ģ) Writing the analysis to Tab 1 is working fine.ģ) The spreadsheet (non-Stata-dependent functionality) is appropriately creating the labels in row 1 of Tab 2. I've managed to get most of the individual pieces of the above working just fine. The tasks in Stata are to do the following:ġ) Loop over the various subtests I'm interested inĢ) Within subtests, loop over the various analyses I'm interested inĪ) write the subtest to the appropriate cell in Tab 1 using -putexcel- ī) write the analysis to the appropriate cell in Tab 1 using -putexcel- Ĭ) pull in from a separate source document the appropriate subset of student scores/results for each analysis using -use-ĭ) write those results to Tab 2, cells A3: using -putexcel- Į) import the data in that spreadsheet using -import excel. So selections of "multigraph" analysis and the "syll_sound" subtest generate variable names of the form syll_sound1_multigraph_0, syll_sound_7_multigraph_3, and so forth. Tab 2: Based on the inputs from Tab 1, creates the variable name I need in the general format _. The combination of the "analysis type" cell and the "subtest" cell provides the inputs to Tab 2. For instance, if the user wants to know whether students' performance on test items which include multigraphs (ch, sh, ndz, nkhw, etc.) differed from their performance on items which lack multigraphs, s/he would choose "multigraph" in a specific selector cell. Tab 1: Enables the user to select which subset of the data s/he wants to look at (student scores on letter naming, syllable sounds, oral reading fluency, etc.) and the particular sort of analysis s/he wants to explore using the student scores.
I am working with an Excel spreadsheet that (for the purposes of this post) includes two tabs. I am using Stata 14.0 and Excel 2013 on Windows 7.
